I should also mention that there are more clustering
technologies that are not really related to high
availability but since the term "clustering" is
somewhat ambivalent...

Beowulf -- well, no need to talk about this
one. Beowulf just helped achieving a
world record in clustering - more than 400
nodes up and running, and doing useful work.

MOSIX -- "is a tool for supporting cluster
computing. This tool includes adaptive resource sharing
algorithms that are geared for performance scalability
in a (shared-nothing) scalable computing cluster."
